The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan Photo Location In New York
The photo on the cover for the classic The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album features a photograph of Dylan with his then-girlfriend Suze Rotolo. The photo was taken by CBS staff photographer Don Hunstein at the corner of Jones Street and West 4th Street in Greenwich Village, New York City. It was just a few feet away from the apartment where the couple lived at the time.
Below you will find the first apartment Dylan rented in New York City right down the street from the cover photo. Bob moved here with Suze in December 1961 shortly after recording his first album.
161 West 4th Street New York, New York
(Between Jones Street and Sixth Avenue)
Here's a few alternate shots of Dylan and Rotolo from the same photo shoot.

Suze RIP
Goodbye, Suze.
This picture is beautiful, it summarises the 60's….and his best EVER Lp….. omegamorgan
Suze got the karma for trying to make $$ for knowing Bob.
Appreciate the effort, but you are off by a block or so. The cover photo is on Jones St, around the corner from the apartment on 4th.
As a professional location scout in NYC and fan of Bob Dylan, I was very happy to see this post. RIP Ms. Rotolo
Living on Mac Dougal St. & Houston (late 60´s) I used to see B.Dylan frequently, I never approached him as I respected his privacy. Great album cover.
