Dee Dee Ramone (born Douglas Glenn Colvin), of The Ramones, died June 5, 2002 in apartment #204 in this unassuming apartment building in Hollywood.
6740 Franklin Place Apt #204, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Dee Dee Ramone was one of the original founding members of the band and was the one that gave them the name Ramones.
Dee Dee struggled with drug addiction for much of his life, particularly heroin. He began using drugs as a teenager, and continued to use for the majority of his adult life. He appeared clean in the early 1990s but began using heroin again some time later. This is one of the last photos of Dee Dee Ramone taken on the balcony at the very same Hollywood apartment he died in.
Dee Dee died of an accidental heroin overdose, according to this final report from the Los Angeles coroner’s office. Police responding to a 911 call on June 5 found a syringe with “possible drug residue” and five balloons with “possible drug contents” in his Hollywood apartment.
Ramone’s wife found the 50 year old lying face down on a couch unresponsive at 8:25 p.m. He was pronounced dead 15 minutes later when paramedics arrived.
Anybody that knows Hollywood area has driven by the apartment building hundreds of times as it is just down the street from The Hollywood Bowl right off of Highland Avenue.
It's so sad tha he's gone. He was allways my fucking idol.
RIP Dee Dee, we love you
