Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has been a harsh critic of Spotify and other music streaming services.
“I feel like as musicians we need to fight the Spotify thing. I feel that in some ways what’s happening in the mainstream is the last gasp of the old industry. Once that does finally die, which it will, something else will happen,”
With the launch of the Apple Music streaming service, Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” as well as Yorke’s solo albums and with Atoms for Peace were made available, despite being pulled elsewhere. Why Apple??? A quick look at a few of his guitars will tell you Yorke has supported Mac for years???
It’s was rather surprising as Yorke has been highly critical of how streaming services pay musicians.
“Make no mistake new artists you discover on Spotify will no get paid [sic],” Yorke tweeted in 2013. “Meanwhile shareholders will shortly being rolling in it.”
Yorke had the retro rainbow Apple logo stickers on both his black 1974/75 Fender Telecaster Deluxe and his Fender Telecaster Custom as well as an acoustic guitar.
For reasons unknown he eventually covered up and or removed the stickers on both guitars.
