In the video for Noel Gallagher’s first solo song “The Death of You and Me“, Gallagher’s ring is featured two times before he is even shown in the video. Here are two screencaps of the featured piece of jewelry.
I have always been slightly intrigued by the”class ring” that Noel wears on his right ring finger.
Gallagher said he bought the ring in a Japanese pawn shop. He also said,
“I fucking lie to everyone about this ring. I say, yeah, this is a ruby, man. But look. It’s pink glass.”
Some people have stated that it is an Irish Claddagh Ring but it looks more like your run of the mill High School or College class ring. You can even see half of the year “19” on one side of the ring. Here’s an example of a class ring…
We will eventually get down to the bottom of this. Not that it is really that important in the grand scope of things but we would like to know the school and the year of the ring.
UPDATE: Noel Gallagher was asked about his ring during a reddit AMAA (ask me almost anything) Q&A on May 1, 2015. Gallagher revealed the ring is from a High School in the United States. He said:
“I bought this ring in a pawn shop in Tokyo in the 90’s. It’s a US college ring that I believe people get when they graduate from college in America. It was given to somebody. I’m assuming a G.I. stationed in Tokyo, from Ruston High School in Mississippi (I’ve looked it up)”
The mystery that kept me up at night is now solved!!!
