The Ramones proved that you don’t have to play everything perfectly to be an amazing band. Case in point, Johnny Ramone once famously told Joe Strummer,
“We’re lousy, we can’t play. If you wait until you can play, you’ll be too old to get up there.”
Johnny’s widow Linda notes:
“Johnny loved The Clash, He thought they were the second-best punk band of all-time, behind The Ramones. Joe and Johnny were good friends.”
Here’s some photos of Joe & Johnny hanging out in Los Angeles in August of 2001 for a photo shoot.
That day the two punk legends ended up at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, California where together, they defaced a backstage dressing room with slogans like Elvis lives, Al Gore is gay and Sean Penn is a fag. Check it out…
“Back in the old days, Johnny thought punk was gonna take over and The Ramones, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols were gonna be as big as The Beatles and The Stones. It just so happens that punk wasn’t commercial, which only made it cooler.” – Linda Ramone
