This photo of Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix playing soccer backstage has been making the rounds for years.
I admit when I first saw it I was impressed, until common sense kicked in and I realized that Hendrix died in 1970 and this photo was taken later in Marley’s career. After some research, the photo was taken on November 27, 1979 backstage at the San Diego Sports Arena. It was taken during Marley’s “Survival Tour” as seen on the back of the shirt in the foreground in the un-cropped photo.
It is not a photoshop trick but rather a real person who (when blurred and from the side) happens to look like a lot like Hendrix. Here’s a couple of photos of the unidentified man with the leather jacket on the same night with Marley. Clearly he’s not Jimi Hendrix.
UPDATE: A feelnumb.com reader معاوية شاويش just gave us the info we have been searching for. The mystery man in the photo that looks like Hendrix is trumpet player Glen Dacosta from the Jamaican band Zap Pow. Here is cover to his album Mind Blowing Melody.
Jimi did meet lots of rock stars, just not Bob Marley and Bob Marley did meet George Harrison and Michael Jackson. At least the photo was real, these other two below are actually really good photoshop fakes…
