The Foo Fighters album “There Is Nothing Left To Lose” was re-released in 2001 in Australia as a two-CD edition. This edition has this picture of the Australian swimmer Michael Klim on the front, wearing a temporary “FF” tattoo on his arm instead of the normal version of the back of Dave Grohl’s neck with his permanent tattoo.

Dave discusses how the alternate cover came about at around the 8:00 mark in this interview from 2002. Check it out…

During Them Crooked Vultures shows John Paul Jones pulls out this Lap Steel Bass Guitar when they play “No One Loves Me & Neither Do I.” It was custom made by Hugh Manson of Manson Guitars. Manson is one of the UK’s most well-respected electric guitar makers and has also been the Led Zeppelin legend’s personal technician since the mid 1990s.

It’s called a Manson Lapaphone. Its is an 8 string instrument (4 + 4x 1+ octave) the Kaoss screen is a XY midi controller, no internal effects are in the guitar. It also has a Fernades Sustainer single coil pickup and 3 octave range on the fretboard. Check out John Paul Jones using it live…
Manson was quoted as saying “Yes I did make this instrument and in fact all that JPJ uses on the Vultures tour. It is an 8 string Bass lap steel with a midi control screen on it which will control any thing with a “midi in”. This is similar to the guitars I make for Matt Bellamy (Muse). It also has a sustainer pickup on it and a hipshot bridge tuning system that enables 3 different open tunings by moving levers.”

Them Crooked Vultures have joked about how drummer Dave Grohl was supposedly “rushed to doctor” because he’d overdosed on caffeine – by drinking too much coffee. Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, posted a video online explaining Grohl’s coffee-drinking habits.
“Two weeks after this video was shot, Dave was rushed to doctor due to the onset of unwanted physical effects caused by too much caffeine. For reals. He was kind of a mess.”
The message continues, “Since then he has reduced his intake of the super delicious hot beverage to a healthier level.”

Dave confirms it wasn’t a joke and was actually real…
“We were in the studio making a record and I was drinking a lot of coffee,” he told Absolute Radio. He added: “I was doing Vultures stuff at night, Foo Fighters stuff during the day and I had a newborn at home so I was sleeping two-three hours a night on an air mattress in a guest bedroom. And yeah, I had too much coffee, I started to get chest pains so I went to the hospital and they told me to stop drinking the coffee.”

In the fall of 2006, The Eagles Of Death Metal led by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme had an opening support slot with Guns N’ Roses. During the first concert with Guns N’ Roses, in Cleveland, Ohio on November 24, 2006, the band was not well received by the crowd at all and when Axl Rose came out to perform, he asked the crowd if they enjoyed “The Pigeons of Shit Metal,” and announced that the show would be their last with Guns N’ Roses.
Shortly thereafter the band released this statement regarding the incident:
“At first, the audience refused to welcome us to the jungle, but by the time we took our final bow, it had become paradise city. Although Axl tried to November rain on our parade, no sweet child o’ mine can derail the EODM night train. We say live and let die. ”
They took further stabs at Guns N’ Roses, claiming that Rose had invited the band back for the rest of their scheduled dates as support act. The band also received full payment for the entire tour despite playing only a single show with the band. At the band’s November 18, 2008 show at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club, Jesse Hughes unveiled to the audience a “Pigeons of Shit Metal” tattoo on his left forearm that he acquired earlier in the day.

In 2003, the Foo Fighters recorded a cover of the Prince song “Darling Nikki,” which they included as a B-side on the Australian version of their “Have It All” single. Though their version was never officially released as a single, it surprisingly found success at American Modern Rock radio, peaking at #15. Prince was less than pleased, telling Entertainment Weekly that he didn’t appreciate the Foos (or anyone else) covering his work, and that Dave Grohl and company should “write [their] own tunes.” Taylor Hawkins said “We wanted to put it out here in the States, but Prince wouldn’t let us,” “I heard that he didn’t like our version. Or maybe he just didn’t like us doing it.”
On 4 February 2007 Prince got his revenge on the Foos by covered their song “Best of You” at Super Bowl XLI. Hawkins said, “Dude, I have no idea why he did it, but I’d love to find out,” he laughed. “I mean, the thought went through my head that maybe he was doing it as a sort of ‘F— you’ to us, or maybe he really likes the song. Either way, it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs — and actually doing it better than we did.”
Hawkins said he was clueless about Prince’s plans to work “Best of You” into his Super Bowl set. “I was watching the game at our producer Nick Raskulinecz’s house, and since he’s doing the new Rush album, all the guys from the band were there,” he said. “I mean, I’m outside smoking a cigarette with Neil Peart and someone sticks their head outside and goes, ‘Uh, dude, Prince is doing your song.’ ” Hawkins said he hasn’t heard from anyone in Prince’s camp about the cover but said the entire band is thrilled — if a little puzzled — by the cover.
In 1968 the Ampeg Company of Linden, New Jersey hired Dan Armstrong as a consultant to improve their Grammer line of guitars. He designed a new line of guitars and basses that were constructed of clear plexiglass. Calling it one of his favorite guitars ever manufactured, Dave Grohl owns four “Lucite Ampegs” that are all tuned differently for various Foo Fighter songs and are featured in three of the Foo Fighters’ most popular videos: “All My Life,” “The One” and “Times Like These.”

The Dan Armstrong line of guitars also became renowned for their excellent electronics, and interchangeable pickups. The guitars also had long sustain caused by the solid plexiglass body that made the guitars also quite heavy (around 10 lbs). A second reissue of the Dan Armstrong guitar was launched in 2006 containing many upgrades that are widely believed to actually improve upon the original design.
Here’s a photo of Ronnie Wood playing a “Lucite Ampeg” and a Foo Fighter poster with Dave holding the guitar.

Footage of Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins playing Twister with Crisco lard has emerged. The three minute clip sees the bandss struggling to get to grips with the game, and each other. Krist Novoselic, Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, D’Arcy Wretzky and Billy Corgan fail spectacularly to hold a civilised game of Twister for MTV.
