When Nirvana was asked to perform their new hit single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on England’s Top of the Pops television program, they were asked by show executives to sing live to an instrumental backing track of the song. Nirvana refused and asked to play live, but the show executives would not let them. As a result, Nirvana turned in one of their most memorable performances ever.
If you ever wanted to see the guy that played drums for Nirvana walking down a street, well here it is, Mr. Dave Grohl. Here he is walking back… Eddie Vedder Crossing The Street
Throughout his career, Kurt Cobain as most “users” do almost always wore long sleeve shirts. On the rare occasion he didn’t and if you looked really close, Kurt had small K tattoo on his left forearm that he did himself circa 1991.
After the death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana was obviously finished. Dave Grohl wondered if his future might be in drumming for other bands. In November 1994, Grohl played Saturday Night Live with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers filling in their recently fired drummer Stan Lynch.
In 1993, Wal-Mart adopted a policy of not carrying any objectionable materials in their stores. While they continued to sell guns, cigarettes and movies (containing bad language, sex and violence) they made many musicians alter their albums before they would sell them, resulting in “clean” and “dirty” versions of many albums.
Dave Grohl has always had a pretty awesome sense of humor. His humor comes out in his music videos, photographs and interviews. A friend of mine gave me a few DG Foo Fighters guitar picks Saul Goode & Les Dudis…
Was Axl Rose actually a fan of Nirvana??? In the music video for the Guns N’ Roses song “Don’t Cry”, a Nirvana baseball hat is visible to the side of Axl’s left leg when he is lying down in the psychiatrist’s office.
Nirvana’s last show was on March 1, 1994 at Terminal 1 in Munich, Germany. Terminal 1 was the international airport of Munich, Germany until it was closed down on May 16, 1992, the day before the new airport opened. SInce then it has been used for concerts and raves.
Dave Grohl only sang lead vocals on one Nirvana song, “Marigold” which was a b-side on the “Heart Shaped Box” single. Grohl did contribute a decent amount of background vocals on various Nirvana tracks.
