Two guys in two huge bands both named Adam stuck House of Pain stickers on their instruments. Beastie Boys Adam “MC Ad Rock” Horovitz stuck a House of Pain sticker on his green Hondo II Professional Guitar. Adam Clayton of U2 also stuck an HOP sticker on one of his “Zooropa” era Fender Precision Basses.
On December 3, 2015 I attended a portion of the once-in-a-lifetime Julien’s Auctions curated by Ringo Starr and wife Barbara Bach, featuring items from their London estate, and Beverly Hills and Monaco residences.
If I was able to morph into an 80’s Pop Superhero I would be riding Prince’s “Purple Rain” motorcycle, wearing Michael Jackson’s white glove and I’d be dressed in George Michael’s jeans, boots, aviator shades & leather jacket get from the “Faith” video.
The guitar Frampton principally used on the album and pictured on the album cover is a distinctive black custom 1954 Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar (with three humbucking pick-ups as opposed to the usual two). It was lost in a plane crash in Venezuela.
Joe Perry married his second wife Billie Montgomery in 1985 after they met on the set of his Joe Perry Project “Black Velvet Pants” video in 1983. Perry loves his beautiful wife so much he had her likeness airbrushed on his guitar.
Dave Grohl on his Black Flag tattoo: “When I was 12 or 13, I gave myself a Black Flag tattoo, prison style, with a needle and pen ink.” Years later Grohl didn’t forget about his childhood heroes and paid homage to Black Flag by playing a Dan Armstrong Luctie Guitar.
The guitar Sheeran has recently busted out at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the 2015 Grammy Awards is a replica of the Eric Clapton “Crash” Fender Stratocaster. In 1997, Eric Clapton met street artist John “Crash” Matos and was inspired by his artwork, a mix of abstract and graffiti based street-art.
In September 2007, Gibson introduced the DG-335, designed in collaboration with Foo Fighter Dave Grohl. Since it’s introduction, this is pretty much the only guitar Grohl plays on stage. B.B. King had “Lucille”, Dave Grohl has “Lou”.
These photos of Bob Marley in his backyard at home in Jamaica were taken by photographer David Burnett for Time Magazine in March of 1976. Marley did not play many different guitars in his career but this acoustic guitar caught my eye because of the piece of paper it has taped to it.
I have always been intrigued by the colorful acoustic guitar played by Pat Smear during the Nirvana MTV Unplugged In New York concert.
