Steven Tyler Once Had A 14 Year Old Girlfriend That Her Parents Signed Over To Him

In 1975, Steven Tyler convinced the parents of 14 year old groupie Julia Holcomb (Holcolm) to sign over guardianship to him so that she could live with him in Boston.  Here is a photo of them together…

Tyler who was 27 at the time, dated and did drugs with Holcolm for 3 years before they eventually broke up after unplanned pregnancy which resulted in an abortion.  Tyler returned Julia to her parents at the age of 17.  Julia is mentioned in the book “Walk This Way” as Diane Hall to conceal her identity.  Anyone know the whereabouts of Julia?

UPDATE: In an interview in May 2011, Tyler spoke about how he is still haunted by the abortion and how it caused a downward spiral for him.  After the abortion, Tyler began an affair with Playboy model and notorious groupie Bebe Buell while still seeing Julia.  As for Julia at the time, Bebe said,

“There were many suicidal calls from poor Diana (Julia) as they were breaking up. It was actually a pretty sad time.”

Here’s a photo of Steven and Bebe who would eventually give birth to his daughter actress Liv Tyler in 1977.

Tyler went on a European concert tour, accompanied by Bebe, she recalls:

“He was crazy … totally drunk, really out of it. … Steven destroyed his dressing room at Hammersmith … when we got back from Europe. … One night I found him on the floor of his bathroom having a drug seizure. He was writhing in pain.”

Tyler also reflects on his abortion experience in the autobiography.

“It was a big crisis. It’s a major thing when you’re growing something with a woman, but they convinced us that it would never work out and would ruin our lives. … You go to the doctor and they put the needle in her belly and they squeeze the stuff in and you watch. And it comes out dead. I was pretty devastated. In my mind, I’m going, Jesus, what have I done?”

I can't believe Steven Tyler, got away with this…..

  2. Nonstopdrivel says:

What do you mean, "got away with this"?  Your comment betrays an obvious ignorance of American history.  The modern trend of age-of-consent laws ranging from 16 to 18 in the United States is a relatively recent phenomenon.  In most states, the ages of consent jumped in the 80s and 90s.  The reason he "got away with this," as you put it, is that it was totally legal.
It is amazing to contemplate that there actually used to be a time in this country when it was believed that teenagers should, you know, have rights instead of being treated like overgrown children. What a novel concept.

Hey Nonstopdrive….you are obviously a perverted pedofile!!! Your reply betrays an obvious trait of humanity that ensures we don't molest our children you sick f*&K…..Burn in hell!! BTW where's your daughter tonight 😉

      1. chris says:

hey anon2..you're a damn fool.  what the person said is completely correct.  at one time the age of consent in this country was 12.  dudes in their 50s were marrying girls that young.  that changed in the 20s to 15 and stayed there til the late 70s to 16 then in the 80s to 18.  so at that time what he did wasn't that bad

        1. Anonymous says:

There was a time when young girls had fathers at home and listened to them. There was no need for an age of consent law, because if a child molestor showed up at the front door, he got the shotgun in his face. In any case, you are wrong. The age of consent in many states is still well below age 18. That doesn't make it "not that bad." Is everything without a prohibition acceptable to you?

          1. htn225 says:

Looks like some of you need to read your history…in the early part of this country’s history at 14-15 girls were already married, had children and were running the farm……And when someone states historic facts, that doesn’t make them child molesters. History although isn’t always pleasant is relevant to it’s time frame,  whats acceptable and moral now may be illegal in a hundred years. And you can’t even imagine what might be because everything you do right now is correct for our current society.  Don’t judge and read history without judgement and you will better understand whats happening in this world.

          2. history is there to learn from says:

Nature says to leave human females alone until they’re around 13+/- years old. Society says leave them alone until they’re 18. 18 for an age of majority is arbitrary, but we have collectively agreed this is in the best interests of all of society, including women. In this day, with the state of society and medical care, 18 is probably close to the ideal age for majority. (Maybe 17; maybe 19 or 20?) Many factors influence the appropriate age, including: # of average children, infant mortality rates, age of puberty, nutrition, physical development, childbirth mortality, average education levels, economic factors. These factors are not constants over time, so don’t judge so harshly your predecessors for deciding on a different age to “give away” their daughters.

It is true that 18 hasn’t always been the norm. I would contend that in times when 16 was the norm, there was nothing wrong with those relationships. In 30 years, if age of majority goes up to 21, will you all condemn today’s “perverts” for pursuing 18yo females?

        2. BS says:

At a certain point in time, it was OK to own slaves and beat them up. "It wasn't that bad", at that time, since it was totally legal!  There's a difference between "it was considered acceptable to wear a pink leotard at that time" and "it was actually legal to have relations with an underaged person". One is a matter of taste, the other is a matter of ethics and justice.

      2. jenna says:

He isnt a pedophile considering the parents gave consent and gaurdianship to Tyler. If your madly in love with someone then your are and you can't really stop that… Sure, now you have to wait longer if that person is under age to be with them but back then it was different. It's not like he would be able to get away with it nowadays

I feel sick. My daughter and I have been enjoying watching Steven Tyler on American Idol. He is so nice and so supportive to the contestants. Now I am seeing him in a whole new light. Does anyone know if he ever publicly acknowledged that this was a terrible and misguided thing to have done?

  8. Anonymous says:

I know quite a bit about music history and in the early seventies just about ALL rock and popstars dallied with underage groupies.. Led Zep, Bowie, Ted Nugent ect just to name a few.  Fourteen year old groupies were at every stop on their tours.. if you are upset that you thought higher of Steven then get ready to be dissapointed with just about all your favorite classic rock stars.

  9. kimsprague says:

Just because a parent approves or “gives their child” to someone for sex, it doesnt make it legal. Parents can be arrested for child molestation and child endangerment (not to mention this sounds like trafficking…wonder what the parents got in return).and if the child is underage, it can NOT be consensual.  I think the whole thing is sick….and what type of parent let’s their 14 year old daughter be a “groupie” and sign her over to a man twice her age for sex and drugs?  Shame!

  10. bknd2anmls says:

To lesliepalma918:  He just revealed it himself in a book that has just come out.  He regrets a lot of things that he did back then. The person who he finds hardest to forgive is himself.  He didn't have to reveal this. One thing that hauted him and still does is the abortion of their child. He is talking out about stupid decisioins

  11. bluekelpie says:

First of all, the girl was 16, not 14.  Second,  her parents signed a consent form so he could take her out of state; to go on tour with him.  They were in love.  He almost married her.  He really cared for her and has said she was his best friend. Then the drugs became too much and he had to let her go;  to protect her.  He was 26 and she was supposedly extremely gorgeous and in love with him.  Hard to resist.  He stayed at her parents' house and they really loved him.  I guess they figured that the two "kids"  would one day marry.

  12. bedhead_82@yahoo.com says:

I'm 28, a year older than Steven Tyler was at the time and I can only say I can't imagine even being attracted to anyone that young. Its a disgusting thought for me to think about lusting after a 14, 15, 16 year old BOY. I would like to know where this girl is now and what happened to her. Suicidal threats when they broke up is definitly a sign of an immature person who is not ready for the concequesces of a serious relationship. Its all fun and rock and roll until you ruin someones life. This information really grosses me out and makes me see him in a very different light. I can't beleive people on this cire are actually defending his action, whether it was legal or not at the time.

  13. Roman powlanski says:

I can't believe he was attracted to a girl so old! 14! I prefer 12 to 13! Listen if your famous it is ok to take a 14 year old girl, give her tons of drugs , screw her, get an abortion, and dump her 2 years later when she is spun out on drugs that you supplied to her. Come on! There is nothing wrong with that, because it was the 70's-Anytime You do something horrific, you can just use that as an excuse!

Back in the 70's girls were alot more mature than they are today!  It is very clear after reading some of these posts that alot of people need a history lesson.  With the permission of the girls parents leads me to believe that they trusted her with Steven.  She wanted to be with Steven. One way or another the girl would of found a way to be with him. She had a choice too. At 14 they are not baby's anymore. This day and age we have kept them as baby's and It really was know ones business but theres. He shared his story. Thats part of his life. Anyone calling Steven a pedofile does not have a clue what a pedofile is or every had to deal with one. I have!

  15. Christine says:

Yes where is Julia now? Did she comitt suicide ?
I was just watching American idol and noticed his new. Video stars a girl who resembles Julia.

  16. stupid puppyhead@mai says:

I cant get a phone out of my parents!!!!

  17. Um, Really says:

Ur comment about suicide showing immaturity really sickens me. Many people who commit suicide are ones you would never guess even THOUGHT of this. It has nothing to do with immaturity. You obviously are immature for thinking such radical thoughts without having a back up source. This was seen as an every day occurrence. Yes, it may be akward, gross, weird, etc. nowdays, but back then, this was common. If you were in this time period, this wouldn’t have been such a big deal. Her parents didn’t sign her over because of sex and drugs, it was so she could go on tour with Steven. Even though it seems odd a parent would sign their 14 year old daughter over, they did. They had given consent. They were “in love.” Every person in this world has made mistakes.  Many stars have made a comeback from t hings much worse than this.

  18. dlwatts says:

I’ve read about Julia and how well she is doing now. She met a great guy and married him and has had other children. She knows the pain of abortion and so does Steven Tyler. So glad someone with a high profile is speaking about the damage abortion  does.

  19. Bobby Fontaine says:

Everyday this story isn’t told begins new tragedies around the world, that’s how important it is for you to hear it. Just released “ Steven Tyler’s Secret Past” is an absolute must read. This true story will keep you on the edge of your seat taking you into the dark world of Steven Tyler, the Mafia bosses who managed his career, and the very strange tactics used to deploy Aerosmith to the top of the world’s rock and roll scene. It’s a story of struggle and hardship, and overcoming great odds against enemies who’d stop at nothing to get their way. A few simple mistakes at the beginning of his career and Steven was in over his head caught between the CIA and his own Sicilian roots.

Here is a link to Julia Holcomb's story–

Three significant things — two of them life-threatening — happened to Julia once she got with Tyler — no. 1 Tyler asked and her mother relinquished parental rights and she became Steven's charge, leaving her vulnerable to and under his legal control. no.2 She almost died in an apt. fire in his apartment –she was rescued by a  firefighter who found her in the chimney, as the front door was triple locked due drug break ins, no. 3 she had an abortion at 5 mos. gestation at Tyler's urging.   While I don't think Tyler is bad guy, just human, parents need to protect their teen daughters, or they may be taken on a ride wilder than they may be able to survive. As a teen, She was dependent on the adults in her life to care for her. Tyler had legal rights and options as an adult– Julia did not have these options.  No adults in Julia's life were acting in her favor or on her behalf — from her parents to  Tyler.

Steven is writing a book for all to understand his life and to give reasons for the things he has done. I do not agree with the things in his past, but he is human. We all have a past. He raised daughters since he had been with a teenager so I believe his perspective has changed. He was on drugs and alcohol very heavily. At least he went to her parents. This was shocking to me too, yet I remembered the times were different. My mother married my father with consent at the age of 16 yrs old in the 70’s.

  24. Elizabeth says:

Julia was sixteen years old at the time, not fourteen as stated. Even if Julia truly was fourteen, I would still not be bashing Steven simply because the seventies were a very different time from now. Girls of that age back then were much more mature and responsible than they are now, I've seen it first-hand. Just a few years older than she, people were settling down to have families instead of waiting longer as they do now. When Steven and Julia met, she was the age of consent making things perfectly legal. Julia was probably very mature for age, even back then, because of the background and surroundings she was constantly in. You have to remember that when people are treated as an adult they will act like an adult. If the age of consent was twenty-five now people would act as a child until their twenty-sixth birthday. Most states nowadays hold eighteen as their age of consent now, but in another forty years it'll probably be higher and everyone from today will be viewed as "perverts" or "pedophiles". If a very mature, intelligent and wise sixteen year old girl was to have a relationship with an twenty-seven year old man, I wouldn't raise my eyebrows at it; Eleven years is not much when speaking of age gaps.
We're all very wrong to judge others based on their relationships and choices. None of us experienced the emotions or highs and lows of their time together so we don't know what it was like. Besides, age is figment of our imagination and it's up to you to make or break a relationship. Kudos to Steven and Julia for sharing such a love.

Steven is the one that stated she was 14 in the autobiography Walk This Way back in 90's. What a lying jerk.

  25. Jane says:

I highly doubt 14 year olds were more mature in the 1970s than they are now, and girls in the 1970s were not marrying in droves in their late teens.  And the age of consent laws were 16 and 18 in most states in the 1970s, and had been so since the 1920s.   It does seem that there was more social tolerance for liasions between rock stars and  very young groupies in the 1970s, maybe because it was believed that exceptions to social norms should be made for brilliant artists or musicians.  Also, people might have thought that sexually precocious groupies were spoiled good anyway.

"That was really sad it's a bit different then Steven's story yet I'm sure it has effected her much more then it did him, she was the mother after all."

I'm so sick of hearing/reading stuff like this – that mothers have a stronger attachment to or love for their children – I'm the father of a 4 year girl who means more to me than anything in the world, and I know that we have a stronger bond that she has with her mother – I also see this all the time with other fathers that I've met – sure there are crappy ones, but there are just as many crappy mothers out there – it's time to move past this "old world" thinking now that we're in the 21st century

So what ! I was approached when I was late 30's in an empty coffee house by very normal looking parents and a hot young girl (about age 14, I'd say), their daughter, who essentially used them to propose to me that she was available if I was interested. Not a money thing. She'd just chosen me for some reason. I just wasn't interested at the time. It's happens all the time.

  29. darkelf1960 says:

I really don’t know what the big deal is, for the time it was the in thing. My own mother got married to my father when she was like 15 or 16.

Girls married young back then, it was just the way things were.

Jerry Lee Lewis married some chick who was 13.

Honestly, I believe men lost sight of the "age" factor considering how grown up and sophisticated-looking girls used to be. He probably had no idea how old she was when they met.

Also, she looks a HELLA lot older in these pics.. she looks to be in her 30s, so I'm wondering how long this love affair lasted.

Steven knew how old she was, he became her legal guardian. Men have to register as sex offenders these days for having sex with anyone under 14.
He hasn’t really changed much. His most recent video features a young lady who looks like she’s no older than Ms. Holcomb was, and she appears to “play” his romantic interest. If he were sorry, he’d act like the mature man in his 60’s that he is and set an example, but then, that’s rock n roll baby! Rock stars get away with murder, we all know that.

Seriously people, it was the 70's the law was different. Old a** men were marrying young girls. At like 13 years old. Times have changed now. Stop saying he is a pedo. Back then there were no pedos. And look girls at like 12 were having sex as well. Thank who ever changed the law.

  34. chinomannypolito says:

Seriously, this postmodern puritanism is so played out. There’s a big difference in being attracted to a toddler (pedophilia) versus being attracted to a person who looks like they could be 20 years old. Our culture has arbitrarily set the threshold for who we can root at 18, but that’s a social construct, not a biological one. There’s no science or math behind it – it’s a consensus. And if a musician wants to marry his 13 year old cousin or a 14 year old groupie, and when I worked in Prague as a school janitor I had a virtual harem of 15 year old chicks to choose from each night… then I’ll just repeat Tiny Tim’s famous sentiment, “God bless us, everyone!”. I’ll add, “with special thanks to the sophomore class of the Jan Palach Private School”
