The Beatles twice took a photos in the stairwell at the EMI House building located at 20 Manchester Square. The first one taken in February of 1963, would become the cover of their first album “Please Please Me” and the cover of the “Red” 1962-1966 Greatest Hits album.
The second was taken in 1969 for The Beatles “Get Back” album which was shelved and eventually became “Let It Be” but was used for the cover of the “Blue” 1967-1969 Greatest Hits album.
The Sex Pistols who were also signed by EMI took this photo in 1977 in the same stairwell The Beatles made famous.
Blur signed to Parlophone which is a division of EMI also struck a pose in the famed stairwell in this undated photo.
FACT: The Beatles were not the first to strike the famous stairwell. Bandleader Joe Loss founder of the Joe Loss Orchestra. popular during the British dance band era posed in the stairwell back in 1961.
