Ed Sheeran says that he was inspired by Eric Clapton to become a better performer and guitar player after watching him perform at the concert for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
“I saw Eric Clapton at the Queen’s Jubilee. I watched him and I thought, ‘I want to do that, I want to play guitar like that.’
Playing guitar as well as Clapton may take some time but getting the same guitar as your idol is a great start.
The guitar Sheeran recently busted out at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the 2015 Grammy Awards is a replica of the Eric Clapton “Crash” Fender Stratocaster. In 1997, Eric Clapton met street artist John “Crash” Matos and was inspired by his artwork, a mix of abstract and graffiti based street-art. Eric had “Crash” paint one of his unfinished Stratocaster bodies in 2000 and that guitar became “CRASH 1” (also known as the “Over the Rainbow” Stratocaster).
I’m not sure if Sheeran bought the guitar or it if it was given to him by Clapton himself. Cool tribute either way.
Maybe Ed will bust out a “No Snow, No Show” shirt next.
