In 1981, Oingo Boingo released their debut new wave album “Only A Lad“. I’ve always been a bit intrigued by the “boy scout” inspired album cover that has several easter eggs on it.
First off the cover is a redecorated version of this 1960 Boy Scouts of America official handbook, illustrated by Norman Rockwell.
There’s also a subtle nod to the bands previous “Oingo Boingo” E.P. released a year earlier in 1980. The boy scout’s uniform shirt features a patch depicting the album cover cat drawn by Louis Wain.
