Originally called Tony Flow & the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem they played their first show as Red Hot Chili Peppers on March 5, 1983 in Hollywood. Leading of course to the question, what does the name Red Hot Chili Peppers mean???
Chevy Metal: Covering classic rock deep cuts from Van Halen, The Stones, Tom Petty & Billy Joel the band have jammed on-stage with every member of the Foo Fighters and Jane’s Addiction as well as members of The Police, Motley Crue, Sex Pistols, Cheap Trick & Red Hot Chili Peppers just to name a few.
On May 9, 2006, Red Hot Chili Peppers released the amazing 28-track double album “Stadium Arcadium”. The album features some of the Peppers biggest hits and is infamous for being the last album featuring John Frusciante on guitar. The music on the album is timeless and memorable but the album cover itself, featuring yellow “Superman” lettering and a blue background is anything but.
The latest trend in Rock N’ Roll is to get a tattoo of your recently deceased music idol. Dave Grohl went out and got an “Ace of Spades” tattoo to honor Lemmy & Flea took to his official Instagram to show off his newest tattoo dedicated to Bowie.
Flea also paid tribute to The Who’s bass player John Entwistle by sporting a “Skeleton Suit” when the Chili Peppers played Slaine Castle in Ireland on August 23, 2003.
Here’s a photo of Flea sporting his Los Angeles Lakers purple hair running his first Los Angeles Marathon on March 20, 2011. Flea finished the rain soaked 26.2 mile race in 03:52:00 (three hours and fifty three minutes).
The Red Hot Chili Peppers released the album “Freaky Styley” in 1985. The back cover included some tongue-in-cheek aliases for the band members, Hillel Slovak as “Homesqueeze”, Anthony Kiedis as “Homes”, Cliff Martinez as “Homey” and Flea as “Homeboy”.
Anthony Kiedis was born in Michigan and Flea was born in Australia but as young men they both moved to the west coast and now represent California and Los Angeles to the fullest. I decided to compile a list of songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers that mention “The Great State” of California…
RHCP also paid homage to The Who in this photo of them wearing football helmets that was included in the booklet for “Stadium Arcadium”. The album cover for The Who’s 1974 out-takes album “Odds And Sods” showed the band members wearing football helmets as well.
